Day 1: ARRIVAL IN LUANG PRABANG (by A/C car) Arrival at Luang Prabang International Airport via Bang Kok. Welcome to Luang Prabang - the ancient capital of the Lao Kingdom, list by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites in 1995. Welcome and transfer to hotel. Luang Prabang today is a small, peaceful town with a remarkably well-preserved combination of Lao and colonial French architecture, which led to UNESCO World Heritage in 1995. Though virtually nothing of the magnificent 14th century capital of Fa Ngoum has survived the ravages of time and numerous invasions, the city is still a veritable treasure trove of beautiful temples, and historical monuments of the kingdoms that rose and fell in the centuries that followed. Transfer to hotel for check-in and free at leisure for your own activities. Please note that standard check in time is 14.00, check out at 12.00. Early check in or late check-out is subject to room availability. Hotel would probably guarantee early check in or late checkout as an extra surcharge on depend to the rooming’s status at that time. Day 2: LUANG PRABANG FULL DAY TOUR (by A/C car) After breakfast, a full day sightseeing around Luang Prabang including visit National Museum at the former royal Palace which displays a lovely collection of the artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao cultural dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign. Then visit the weaving village of Lu ethnic at Ban Phanom which is well known for its hand weaving. Afternoon you will visit some royal temples such as: Wat Xieng Thong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represent the classical architecture of Luang Prabang temple; Heading out of this area, we explore some other major sights including the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, inside you will see the stupa which is know as that Makmo because the form is like the half of Watermelon, the temple structures are decorated in various ways with gilded stuccoes and doorways. Continue to Wat Aham, which was formerly the residence of the Sangkharat (Supreme Patriarch of Lao Buddhism). Two large banyan trees grace the grounds, which are semi deserted except for the occasional devotee who comes to make offerings to the town's most important spirit shrine at the base of the trees. Followed-up is a visit to Wat Mai - largest temple in Luang Prabang with a gorgeous atmosphere, playing the role of a temple for the royal family until 1875. If enough time, enjoy shopping at the central market and strolling around the shopping area, take your time to enjoy a busy market day, communicating with the local sales and all sorts of their products. It’s quite a sight to see, to give somewhat a picture of Lao social living. Finally, you climb up to the top of the Phousi temple with 382 steps up to take a good view of the beautiful sunset, of greater Luang Prabang and Mekong rivers on surrounding. On early evening, we explore Street Night Bazaar, where you can find the lovely collection and handmade textile by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. Back to your hotel and free at leisure at night. Overnight in Luang Prabang. (B).
Day 3: LUANG PRABANG - PAK OU CAVES - KUANGSI WATERFALL (by A/C car, boat) After breakfast, we enjoy an excursion by boat for along the Mekong River to visit the holly caves of Pak Ou: Tham Ting and Tham Phoum. A repository for old or damaged Buddha images that once graced household shrines, the caves of Tham Ting and Tham Phoum have become highly venerated sanctuaries. During Lao New Year boatloads of Luang Prabang residents make the 25km pilgrimage up the Mekong River to the caves to wash the Buddha images and make merit, just opposite Mekong river’s bank is the village of Ban Xang Hai. Though for centuries the village made its living by crafting stoneware jars, more recently it has become famous for brewing particularly fiendish liquor, made from fermented sticky rice, called 'lao-lao.' Back to Luang Prabang and enjoy the Kuangsi waterfall, a beautiful spot 32 km south of town with a wide, many-tiered waterfall. Go on a trail ascends through the forest along the left side of the fall to a second tier, a large pool will appears in your eyes (swimming is available), tourists will stop here for a while, explore the fell and surroundings with lot of interests. Back to your hotel and free at leisure at night. Overnight in Luang Prabang (B)
Day 4: LUANG PRABANG - PAKSE - KHONG ISLAND (by plane, A/C car, ferryboat) After breakfast, check out then transfer to Luang Prabang airport for a short flight to Pakse by QV 513 at 10.50-12.40. Your next excursions would taste of the highlands - the Bolaven Plateau, a place high above the Mekong Valley known for its temperate climate, coffee plantations and waterfalls shrouded in mist. Rivers run off this high plateau in all directions and then plunge into lush forests in a series of spectacular cascading waterfalls. Explore the tiny villages and lovely surrounding countryside. Upon arrival at Pakse, we will transfer to visit The Pha Suam Waterfall, which was one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. Lot’s of photo opportunities would be here, stop-over to see a village built like a national ethnic cultural park. We will meet the Katou, one of the indigenous Mon-Khmer ethnic groups. Khmu, Alat, Ngae, Kalung, Lavane, Lavere, Katung ethnic groups can be seen here, too. We continue to visit Ban Houay Houn, a weaving village. After that, take a small ferryboat to cross into Don Khong Island - “The Land of Four Thousand Islands”. A big island as 16 km long and 8 km wide, the largest island in the South Mekong river region known as the 4000 islands, one of the most scenic areas in Laos, where the Mekong reaches up to 14km wide during the rainy season. Its capital is Muang Khong, a small former French settlement. Arrived late afternoon then transfer to the hotel for check in and free time. Overnight at Khong Island. (B)
Day 5: KHONG ISLAND FULL DAY TOUR (by boat & A/C car) After an early breakfast, we take motor boat to explore the local villages of Ban Khone, where you will see an array of relics from the French colonial era and retrace the old colonial past, including old French colonial buildings and the remnants of the first Lao railway with it’s ancient locomotive. We continue discover the 4000 islands area by boat at our leisure to visit the Liphi waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls marking the end of Lao border to Cambodia, also known as the Samphamith. If we are lucky, we may even see the rare freshwater Irrawaddy Mekong dolphin at Ban Hang Khone. We return to Ban Nakasang and drive to famous waterfalls of Khone Phapeng, the largest waterfall in South East Asia, known as “Niagara of the east”. Overnight at Khong Island. (B)
Day 6: KHONG ISLAND - CHAMPASAK - PAKSE (by boat, A/C car, elephant riding) After breakfast, check out then transfer to visit Wat Phu (who means mountain temple) is one of Southeast Asia ’s best examples of both early and classic Khmer architecture dating back the 7-11th century centuries., this ruin temple was built before Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. This UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized in 2002 includes the ancient city of Shestrapura and many little known but interesting archeological sites along the banks of the Mekong River. There are also many fine examples of traditional Lao homes and buildings from the colonial period. Proceeding to Ban Kiatgnon (Phou Asa park) to visit the vestiges of this temple dating from the 18th century [ if time permits and elephants available] we experience elephant riding for 2hrs through the forest path and then driving to Pakse before sunset and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Pakse. (B)
Day 7: PAKSE - VANG TAO/CHONG MEK CHECK-POINT-UBON RATCHATHANI AIRPORT IN THAILAND (by A/C car) After breakfast, you would take time to free at leisure, or just enjoy your independent activities until the time of checkout. Transfer to the Laos / Thailand checkpoint in Vang Tao/Chong Mek (Thailand border). After entry visa formality to Thailand, continuing transfer to the Ubon Ratchathani airport in Thailand by private A/C car from the border town Chong Mek. End of services. It’s timely, you have to say Good-Bye Laos.
