VIENTIANE - VANG VIENG - LUANG PRABANG

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN VIENTIANE (by A/C car)

Arrival at the Wattay Airport. Welcome to Vientiane - the Capital of Laos - the only land - locked country in Southeast Asia 'land of a million elephants' and one of the last places to see old Indochina. Laos' isolation from foreign influence offers travellers an unparalleled glimpse of traditional southeast Asian life. From the fertile lowlands of the Mekong River valley to the rugged Annamite highlands, Laos is the highlight of southeast Asia.

Transfer to hotel for check-in and free time for your own activities.

Please note that standard check in time is 14.00, check out at 12.00. Early check in or late check-out is subject to room availability. Hotel would probably guarantee early check in or late checkout as an extra surcharge on depend to the rooming’s status at that time.

Evening, you will enjoy dinner at local restaurant (see supplement) with Lao Traditional dance.

Day 2: VIENTIANE Full day tour (by A/C car)

Today, you will a full day to discover the Vientiane Capital.

Morning visit the National Revolution Museum and Kisone Phomvihanh Museum of which where varied antique items and legend of Laos 's history fighters and leaders displace from the ancient times to new revolution period. The tour is followed-up to the oldest temples such as : visit to Wat Sisaket, built in 1818 by Chao Anou - the very king responsible for incurring the wrath of the Siamese and causing his capital's obliteration. The interior of the main hall, and the walls of the surrounding courtyard, are inset with thousands of tiny niches and shelves containing 6840 Buddha images and Buddhist inscriptions from the 18th century. Then Patouxai war memorial. Inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Patouxai (Lao for Gateway of Victory) is adorned with an array of rough hero Lao historical imagery and offers a splendid, panoramic view of the city from its top. If enough time, proceeding to Wat Ho Phakeo - a former royal temple, built in 1565 by King Setthathirat, the temple was originally designed to house the famous Emerald Buddha, which he had brought with him from the Kingdom of Lanna, That Luang - The most important national monument in Vientiane, is a symbol of both Buddhism and Lao sovereignty, was constructed in 1566 by King Setthathirat.

Afternoon visit Buddha Park - is a religious sculpture park located by the Mekong River 24 km down Stream from Vientiane. Where you can see the view of Nongkhai as well. Buddha park or Garden of Statues (1958) comprises a collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculpture in a level field of grass. Before back to your hotel, you also Ban Nong BouaThong – a famous weaving village in Vientiane.

Day 3: VIENTIANE - VANG VIENG (by A/C car 160 km, boat)

This morning, check out right after breakfast, and then proceed to Nam Ngum Lake with hundreds of small islands. Enroute, stop to visit Lao typical villages to see rural life, including a cottagesalt factory at Ban Bor village. Arrival Nam Ngum Lake by noon.

After that, take a boat ride for 1 hour for relaxing and panoramic view around small islands. Continue to drive about 2 hours into the central highlands to Vang Vieng and catch the sunset over the mountains.

On arrival at Vang Vieng, a small town, which is located on a bend in the Nam Song River, this tranquil town, is rapidly developed with the advent of tourist, but the beautiful scenery with a mixture of quiet water and limestone outcrops is unchanged for century. Then we cross the Nam Song river, and then enjoy a short trek through the breathtaking mountain landscape to Tam None cave and some hill villages. Today ends with a spectacular view of the sunset over the Nam Song river.

Transfer to hotel for check-in and free time for your own leisure at hotel.

Day 4: VANG VIENG - LUANG PRABANG (By A/C car 230km)
This morning, check out right after breakfast; visit Tham Chang, one of the biggest and beautiful cave in Vangvieng. Continue drive about 5-6 hours to Luang Prabang. The ancient first capital of Lane Xang Kingdom, the center of religious life in Laos and one of the world heritage city. A long the way, photo-stops can be made for beautiful scenery with mountain range and also to see rural life of various ethnic groups at small villages.

Arrive Luang Prabang and transfer to hotel for check-in and and free at leisure for your own activities. Luang Prabang today is a small, peaceful town with a remarkably well-preserved combination of Lao and colonial French architecture, which led to UNESCO World Heritage in 1995. Though virtually nothing of the magnificent 14th century capital of Fa Ngoum has survived the ravages of time and numerous invasions, the city is still a veritable treasure trove of beautiful temples, and historical monuments of the kingdoms that rose and fell in the centuries that followed.

Day 5: LUANG PRABANG - PAK OU CAVES - KUANGSI WATERFALL (by A/C car, boat)
After breakfast, we enjoy an excursion by boat for along the Mekong River to visit the holly caves of Pak Ou: Tham Ting and Tham Phoum. A repository for old or damaged Buddha images that once graced household shrines, the caves of Tham Ting and Tham Phoum have become highly venerated sanctuaries. During Lao New Year boatloads of Luang Prabang residents make the 25km pilgrimage up the Mekong River to the caves to wash the Buddha images and make merit, just opposite Mekong river’s bank is the village of Ban Xang Hai. Though for centuries the village made its living by crafting stoneware jars, more recently it has become famous for brewing particularly fiendish liquor, made from fermented sticky rice, called 'lao-lao.'

Back to Luang Prabang and enjoy the Kuangsi waterfall, a beautiful spot 32 km south of town with a wide, many-tiered waterfall. Go on a trail ascends through the forest along the left side of the fall to a second tier, a large pool will appears in your eyes (swimming is available), tourists will stop here for a while, explore the fell and surroundings with lot of interests.

Day 6: LUANG PRABANG Full day tour (by A/C car)
After breakfast, sightseeing around Luang Prabang including visit National Museum at the former royal Palace which displays a lovely collection of the artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao cultural dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign. Then, you will visit some royal temples such as: Wat Xieng Thong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represent the classical architecture of Luang Prabang temple; Heading out of this area, we explore some other major sights including the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, inside you will see the stupa which is known as that Makmo because the form is like the half of Watermelon, the temple structures are decorated in various ways with gilded stuccoes and doorways. You also have time to enjoy shopping at the central market and strolling around the shopping area, take your time to enjoy a busy market day, communicating with the local sales and all sorts of their products. It’s quite a sight to see, to give somewhat a picture of Lao social living.

Afternoon, continue to Wat Aham, which was formerly the residence of the Sangkharat (Supreme Patriarch of Lao Buddhism). Two large banyan trees grace the grounds, which are semi deserted except for the occasional devotee who comes to make offerings to the town's most important spirit shrine at the base of the trees. Followed-up is a visit to Wat Mai - largest temple in Luang Prabang with a gorgeous atmosphere, playing the role of a temple for the royal family until 1875. Finally, you climb up to the top of the Phousi temple with 382 steps up to take a good view of the beautiful sunset, of greater Luang Prabang and Mekong rivers on surrounding.

On early evening, you may self-explore Street Night Bazaar street on 17.30-22.30, where you can find the lovely collection and handmade textile, silvers by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang & Laos also

Day 7: DEPARTURE FROM LUANG PRABANG (by A/C car, plane)
After breakfast, free at leisure until the time for check out at noon, and drive straight up to the Luang Prabang airport for flight back home. Have a safe trip come home!
